(Lake County, IL) The Waukegan Band announced that the 85th Army Band will perform in a joint concert with the Waukegan Band on Tuesday, July 19, 2016 at 7:30 pm at the Stiner Pavilion at Waukegan Beach, 201 Sea Horse Dr., Waukegan, Illinois. The public is invited and there is no charge for the concert.
The 85th Army Band will be directed by CW3 James E. Walker, Commander while the Waukegan Band will be directed by Mark A. Taylor. The combined concert will foster relationships between the 85th Army Band and the local community.
The concert theme is “Salute to our Armed Forces” and will feature music selections by each band as well as joint selections by both combined bands. The joint selections will include a unique medley of service songs from the various branches of the military, as well as Carmen Dragon’s arrangement of “America the Beautiful” and John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever.”
The 85th Army Band was formed on August 2, 1943 during the height of World War II. It has been located in Arlington Heights, Illinois since 1998. The 85th Army Band has 24 musicians who all have civilian careers who find that the band is a great way to serve their country in a special and unique way.
The Waukegan Band presents free concerts Tuesday nights until August 9, 2016. The summer performances begin at 7:30 pm on the lakefront, overlooking the harbor and beach. Bring a lawn chair and relax in comfort on the beautiful lakefront while listening to the music of local Lake County musicians.
